Description
In a career that spans over fifteen years, Joan has proven to be an artistically restless yet consistently enthralling performer. In 2002, she cemented her reputation as a top tier soul singer with an incredible turn in the acclaimed documentary film 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown,' followed by a tour with legendary Motown backing band The Funk Brothers. In 2003, Osborne toured with the Dixie Chicks and then surprised and wowed audiences touring throughout America for two years as the lead singer for The Dead. In 2007, she graced the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Many will remember Joan for her breakthrough debut album 'Relish,' which sold five million copies worldwide and yielded the smash hit "One Of Us" as well as scoring six Grammy nominations. Osborne recently released her eighth studio recording, Love and Hate, this past April, weaving together American roots music and poetic lyrics with Osborne?s distinctively impassioned vocals, Love and Hate is a 12-song collection in which Osborne herself wrote or co-wrote every song. ?These songs resonate especially deep for me,? she said. ?I feel like I?ve grown so much as a songwriter, using simpler and simpler language, getting to the heart of the matter in a purer way.? As to the concept behind the album, Osborne noted, ?The image I keep coming back to is that of a beam of white light?we think it?s one thing, but when you shine it through a prism, you see that it?s made up of many different colors, different frequencies.? Viewed through this conceptual lens, she said love is not something that can be seen as ?just one thing either,? but rather as an amalgam of ?faith and passion, power struggles, humor, anguish, deep spirituality, lust, anger?everything on that spectrum.? Multi-platinum selling recording artist and seven-time GRAMMY nominee, Joan Osborne has recorded and performed in a variety of musical genres, including pop, soul, R&B, blues and country. A live show with Joan is an impassioned fusion of roots music that has garnered her legions of loyal concert fans Expect an evening of new material from Love and Hate, as well as all her other fan favorites, where Osborne will take people on a virtual odyssey through a wide spectrum of emotions?and all within the uniquely intimate space at The Flying Monkey.
