Festival Orchestra Dan Perkins, conductor NATHANIEL STOOKEY Big Bang GROFÉ Grand Canyon Suite BARBER School for Scandal Overture BERNSTEIN Symphonic Dances from West Side Story Our opening orchestra concert personifies the symbolic works of four 20th and 21st-century American composers: Ferde Grofé, Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, and Nathaniel Stookey, the focus of NHMF?s Composer Portrait last summer. We launch the evening with Stookey?s whimsical fanfare, Big Bang, meet in the middle with Grofé?s and Barber?s nationalism, and end on the streets of New York with Bernstein?s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
