Description
Spend a few creative hours with us at The League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Monday, July 8th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Monday, July 15th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM to create original knitted Latvian mittens with instructor, Maryly Matthewman of Meredith, NH. The timeless design of Latvian mitten making is symbolic of life, earth and heaven. The magic is in the cuff design, color choices and individuality. This workshop will focus on the cuff design and how to make the mittens uniquely yours, through color and patterns. Everybody’s mitten will be different. Maryly will show you many different cuff treatments such as fringe, lacy scalloped edge, twisted edges and variations of Latvian Braid. It is very important to the Latvian knitter that their mitten be one of a kind. Class fee: $75 includes 2 day 3 hour sessions. Materials fee: $20. Your choice of 2 skeins Quebecois yarn from Schoolhouse Press in Cream, Red, Brightest Blue, Navy, Pastel Purple, or Forest Green. Original Mitten pattern (with cuff variations) similar to what is shown, a star variation, 4-5 Bits of contrast color yarn for the cuff accents. If you desire an additional skein, $6 each. When you sign up for the workshop please state which 2 contrasting colors of yarn you would like for the main part of the mitten. If you want a 3rd color $6 additional. Bits of bright color yarn will be supplied. Students to bring: Set of 5 DPN (size 2 for women’s sm, size 3 for med, size 4 for large). Personal preference of Maryly is Knitters Pride KarBonz, Basic knitting supplies.
