The League of NH Craftsmen / Meredith Fine Craft Gallery will be having a free lecture by printmaker R.P Hale on August 3rd from 7:00 pm ? 8:00 pm. This lecture will be hosted by the Meredith Bay Colony Club. R.P. Hale is a multigenerational interdisciplinary artist, master-calligrapher and illustrator, medical illustrator, wood engraver, printmaker, early musician and harpsichord maker whose work is in collections and museums worldwide. His style is illustrative and he deliberately cultivated a late-18th-century engraving style for his work, all of which is by commission. He is one of the acknowledged masters in wood engraving and printmaking, teaches the art nationwide, and is also a solar astronomer and specialist in Mesoamerican Studies, specifically in the cultures and languages of the Maya and his own ancestral Aztec. His illustrated talk on the process of wood engraving covers materials, production, printing, some of the applied physics and math of the printing process and some of his own Mexican family's long history in art, printing and wood engraving. He inherited nearly all of his tools, shop equipment, type fonts, and two of his three presses. He will have examples of the many tools, materials and prints he has made, including works-in-progress for commissions, along with some of his calligraphy work. The mission of the League of NH Craftsmen is to encourage, nurture and promote the creation, use and preservation of fine contemporary and traditional craft through the inspiration and education of artists and the broader community. All of our lectures are free and held in the Bistro Room at the Meredith Bay Colony Club located at 21 Mile Point Drive in Meredith, NH.
