This lecture-style program is for anyone who wants to learn more about tarot cards, using the Smith-Rider-Waite deck as a guide. The presentation will cover basic tarot theory, giving an overview of a 78-card tarot deck. We’ll approach the tarot holistically, as a symbolic and archetypal language. Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen, and a favorite tarot deck (it’s okay if you don’t have one). This program isn’t about “fortune-telling,” psychic predictions, or pinning down “what the cards mean.” This program will not include personalized readings or card interpretations from Kate, instead, it is about empowering you to explore new avenues of self-reflection! Kate Sheridan, a.k.a. The Laundress, is a tarot reader and astrologer who believes that fortunes are created rather than told. Her approach is therapeutic rather than predictive, and her work is deeply informed by Jungian psychology. Held in the Library's auditorium, sign-up is not required.
