The Soundscape of Squam Lake

Be honest, when was the last time you stopped and truly listened to the world around you? Join the Squam Lakes Association for our program dedicated to reconnecting with nature through our ears. We’ll begin with a brief introduction to the science of sound before heading out for a guided hike to identify the rhythmic crunches, sharp pops, and natural melodies that define the winter watershed. To stay cozy on our journey, please come prepared with food, water, and warm layers; if you need extra traction, the SLA has a limited supply of snowshoes and microspikes to keep you covered! It’s a wonderful way to gain a new perspective on the auditory beauty of our environment—sounds fun, right? The SLA also offers other Adventure Ecology programs throughout the year. These free programs are open to the public and take place in trails of all lengths and difficulties throughout the four seasons. The focus is to become more comfortable traversing and exploring our beautiful landscape around Squam while socializing with the community. The Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to conserving for public benefit the natural beauty, peaceful character and resources of the watershed. In collaboration with local and state partners the SLA promotes the protection, careful use and shared enjoyment of the lakes, mountains, forests, open spaces and wildlife of the Squam Lakes Region.
