About Us
Canine Cottage is a nature based, homestyle daycare, where we care about the emotional & physical well-being of the dogs that come. We truly become a second home to these pups & we end up loving every one of them! We are one of the few daycares that offer tours (even though it's my house) by appointment. We are not fancy, but dog safe & dog friendly. We have a handbook (digital or print) that can be provided. Transparency is very important to us & we welcome questions as well as your dog.
We have a low staff to dog ratio. Dogs are not crated/kenneled for any length of time. Most of our time is spent outside in good weather. We do activities with the dogs like treasure hunts, bubbles and pools. Sometimes we bring the dogs something smelly that they don't normally get to sniff (like goat dishes). We engage them in bird-watching, fish tank investigations & learning life skills like "off", "back", "wait", "break" & recall to but not traditional training.
We use positive outcomes & treats which not all daycares do. The dogs here have access to toys, bones, balls & buffalo horns. The dogs are monitored; if there are any issues with sharing the toy disappears for a time & the dogs are distracted with a treat or another activity. Sharing is another "real life skill" they learn here.
We only board dogs that attend daycare here & we don't board them until they are comfortable here in order to reduce the stress of boarding. When dogs board here, they stay in our bedroom with us so if there is anything they need during the night, we’re there for them.
