Concord Hospital - Laconia ICU Nurse Receives DAISY Foundation Award for Nursing Excellence

CONCORD, NH – Abigail Thistlewood, RN of Concord Hospital – Laconia is the recent recipient of the DAISY Foundation Award for extraordinary compassionate care provided by licensed nurses.

Abigail was recognized for going above and beyond for a long-term, complex surgical patient in the ICU at Concord Hospital – Laconia. Throughout the patient’s extended stay, Abby patiently and consistently gave reorienting bedside care during episodes of delirium, then further ensured the patient’s emotional and mental well-being by advocating for and facilitating a safe visit outdoors. She personally crafted a diagram of the patient’s wounds and taught them how to change dressings, then created a medication template; both tools helped alleviate stress and confusion during hospital discharge.

“Abby is a beautiful example of what it means to be a kind, compassionate, competent, and caring nurse. She brings knowledge and brightness to every patient interaction, and we are privileged to work with her,” wrote the individual who nominated her for the award.

The DAISY Foundation Award is one of the ways we recognize the super-human work nurses do for our patients and their families every day,” said Melissa C. Golightly, MSN, MHCDS, FACHE, Administrative Director of Nursing Operations- CHL/CHF. “It serves as a powerful testament to their unwavering dedication, skill, and compassionate care.”
