Description
Come learn more about the elusive creatures that are found in our backyard! Emma Murray, a LRCC member, is leading a hike to uncover the secrets of OWLS on March 9. This will be a 2.2 mile hike on the Dot Banks Nature Trail to Lost Lake in Sandwich. On this hike we will learn owl calls in an effort to hear a response from our feathered friends. Other than calling out we will try to limit our conversations so we don’t scare away the owls. If you have experience calling this hike will be perfect if not we’ll have opportunities to learn. There are no guarantee of owls as mother nature is impossible to predict, however there is a good chance of owl interaction. Some of the resources the SLA takes care of are usually not seen everyday and are unappreciated. Owls are some of these fickle beings that are only out at night and not an experience most hikers get to have. This hike will take us on an adventure looking for those hidden moments one doesn’t usually experience. Come join us as we search for the Strigiformes of Squam. For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology program, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other Adventure Ecology programs throughout the year. These free programs are open to the public and cover a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the LRCC AmeriCorps members at the SLA who perform important conservation work in support of the Association’s mission. The Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to conserving for public benefit the natural beauty, peaceful character and resources of the watershed. In collaboration with local and state partners the SLA promotes the protection, careful use and shared enjoyment of the lakes, mountains, forests, open spaces and wildlife of the Squam Lakes Region.
