Hess Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented Survey Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist our Licensed Land Surveyors in conducting field surveys, collecting data, and performing various tasks related to land surveying projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects and develop valuable skills in the surveying industry.
Responsibilities:
· Adjust and operate surveying instruments under the guidance of a Licensed Land Surveyor.
· Record survey measurements and descriptive data using data collectors, notes, drawings, and sketches.
· Visit sites to take measurements of the land and collect data for mapping existing conditions.
· Conduct research at various locations to gather deeds, maps, and easements necessary for survey projects.
· Compile information required to stake projects for construction based on engineering plans.
· Position and hold vertical rods or targets to measure angles, distances, and elevations accurately.
· Search for property corners and survey points using surveying equipment.
· Perform level runs and other surveying tasks as directed by the surveying team.
· Conduct surveys to determine the locations of natural features and man-made structures using electronic distance-measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
· Collect data using maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant sources.
· Assist in the development of methods and procedures for conducting field surveys.
· Perform manual labor such as cutting brush for lines and carrying stakes, rebar, and other surveying equipment.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
· Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S) in Land Surveying Technology or related field preferred.
· Associate’s Degree in Surveying or minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a Survey Technician or similar role.
· Working knowledge of surveying equipment such as total stations, scanners, and data collectors.
· Understanding of advanced survey technologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
· Proficiency in computer skills, including CAD drafting and design.
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and clients.
